The Greater Swiss Mountain dogs are large, vigorous, vivacious dogs, black as a base colour with light spots, rust and white coloured. The Greater Swiss Mountain dogs are the largest of the Swiss Mountain dogs (height of males at withers: 65 to 72 cm; height of females: 60 to 68 cm).
Harmonious and beautiful in their proportions and colours, the Greater Swiss Mountain dogs have short hair, 3-5 cm long, with undercoat.
Some facts about their character:
With a calm temperament and a perfect self-control, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are excellent shepherd dogs, but they are disadvantaged by their mass and weight: for this reason, farmers employ them more particularly to guard buildings and homes.
Awake, kind and loyal, very protective of children, to whom they profess true affection; the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are also very popular companion dogs. They do not require to have a large garden. They are obedient and incorruptible dogs.
In addition, they are very easy to train. They are good guards, distrustful with strangers, but they never become aggressive; they are perfectly balanced.
They are also used as rescue and catastrophes dogs, they are very brave. They can also serve as companion dogs and as sled dogs.
These dogs enjoy sledding, an energetic ability endowed on them by nature; if properly equipped with a suitable harness adapted to their morphology, they can pull heavy loads with ease.
20 YEARS OF SELECTION AND PASSION
A lifetime passion for the Swiss Mountain Dogs, including the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs that we select since 1993.
Returning to the past
This was our first Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs meeting, 15 years ago.
We keep a good memory of those moments full of anecdotes. It was a real pleasure to see again some of the puppies, already grown now.
